Focus on one of the project partners: CEFAS

10 november 2022

CEFAS (Centre for Environmental, Fisheries and Aquaculture Sciences) is one of the British partners of the Indigo project. Its mission consists in testing the ageing process of new biodegradable materials in the natural environment under the various climatic conditions to which they may be exposed during their lifetime. Ageing tests in natural environment are carried out from the marine observation network "SmartBuoys", which is an automated stand-alone system used to collect data on the marine environment. The data collected by the Smartbuoys will help to characterise and explain precisely the ageing process of fishing gear made of innovative biodegradable materials.

The Université Bretagne Sud (UBS) will then measure the mechanisms and rates of degradation.
