This summer, few members of the Watch The Sea association led Seatrekking expeditions along Brittany et Normandy coastline (Bay of Douarnenez, Bay of Brest...). This excursion, in collaboration with the Interreg project Preventing Plastic Pollution, allowed the collect of a lot of marine litter including lost fishing gear (traps, nets, buoys). The participants had the reflex to report this information in Fish & Click, a valuable source of data for our research.
Seatrekking consists of hiking (fins, mask, snorkel) in the sea and along the coastline in autonomy for several days in difficult to access areas.
Watch The Sea combines this practice with actions in favor of the knowledge and protection of the marine environment such as collecting and cleaning waste, monitoring of marine fauna and flora in relation with scientists and education actions for the protection of the environment among Seatrekking practitioners.
Several expeditions are organized each year in the Atlantic or the Mediterranean. To learn more about Watch The Sea http://watchthesea.org/
