Many of you report green rope ends (<5mm) via Fish & Click. These fragments of rope come from the cutting of trawl nets. This technique, which is synonymous with mending for fishermen, consists of repairing fishing nets damaged directly on board fishing vessels at sea or on the quayside of ports.
If the cut pieces of fishing gear are not quickly removed from the deck of the vessel, they may be blown overboard by waves.
Differents measures are currently being developed for fishermen in order to limit the discharge of these pieces of nets at sea and reduce the amount of plastic waste on the marine ecosystem (our article on the Sacabout).
A trawl is a pocket-shaped net dragged on the bottom of the water or near the surface by one or two vessels (https://wwz.ifremer.fr/peche/Le-monde-de-la-peche/La-peche/comment/Les-navires/Chalutier).
